Big, Bigger, Biggest
Our White-Faced Hornet nest continues to grow and grow. It has been very interesting (in a kind of creepy way) to watch it take form. The first time I photographed it was on July 3rd. By August 2nd it had expanded considerably, and now it's even more impressive in size. If you look at where the nest's boundaries are compared to the wood trim and clapboards on the house, you can really get a sense of how industrious these bad-tempered insects have been. Galling to know that their building material is sourced from the teak furniture down by the pool! If the weather behaves as it is supposed to at this time of year, it won't be long before the inhabitants will freeze to death, and the nest can be safely knocked down.
