The farming year continues with preparation for next year’s harvest and within a couple of weeks I expect this field will start to show green shoots. Yesterday the stubble was roughly broken up and today a huge machine was levelling the soil and planting seed with fertiliser between each seed drill. Despite the field being several hectares it didn’t take very long to drill the seed, yet 100 years ago it would have taken several weeks for farm workers to plough using horses and then broadcasting the seed. Another example of machines replacing people.
