The End of the Road

We headed to the east coast with a coach load of Year 8s today to look at coastal erosion. I haven't visited Skipsea since I was a child and it has suffered dreadfully over the years. Unlike Hornsea further down the coast a decision was made not to build defences against the sea so it is receding at 2 metres per year. A whole street of holiday homes has long gone, as has the road that served it. We had planned to go down to the beach to look at the ravages from below but there is no longer a path down to the shore because the road ends here! All of this means that Skipsea is dying as a holiday resort and the future is uncertain for those holiday cottages which are now about seven years away from the edge of the cliff!
