Gloucester Cathedral
We picked up M-in-L and drove to Gloucester. We did a bit of shopping first and bought a new shirt for Clive for a wedding we have soon.
Then we went into the Cathedral. The exterior and surrounding square is undergoing some major refurb and will be worth another visit in due course.
We were fortunate in that the Gloucester Choral Society were rehearsing Mendlessohn's Elijah with the British Sinfonietta for a concert this evening. We were welcome to sit and listen. Oh my word! It was spine tingling and goose bump inducing and so atmospheric.
King Edward the II is buried there. To look at his tomb whilst listening to magificent singing and think about the people before us and the hundreds of years that this Cathedral has existed was thought provoking.
An evening of looking for Mendelssohn on You Tube lies ahead....
