Cave dwellers of Matera

Cave dwellers inhabited part of this hill top village for centuries, the last ones vacating in the 1960's. The accommodation, carved out of the rock, was primitive  and shared with livestock.The extra includes some internal shots of one dwelling which quite often featured family units running into double figures. There was also a church in a slightly larger cave.
