New shoes

After a week of unsuccessfully looking for my mom's trusty brown walking shoes, I bought her a new pair of Keen's. Very sturdy, very stylish--until I wrote her name on the outside of them with a ball point pen. Is this an exercise in futility? Will these go missing, too?

Lots of interesting conversation today. One bit had to do with my mom saying that "after she graduates" she doesn't  want to have to work with kids when they get too smart. She wouldn't know what they were saying. Then she brought it into the present, saying, "Sometimes they ask me something and I can't understand, so I just leave and go get a drink of water, and then I have time to figure out what they're asking me. Then I bring some water back for them, too." Strategic! Executive function lives!
