Bukhara
Our homestay had an amazing room for breakfast . Huge Russian style room, high ceiling, ornate decor, alcoves for porcelain etc, wall paintings.
Left 9 in bus for Summer Palace of last Emir who was only there 2 years before Soviets came. He fled with his money but left wives and kids behind. The women were allowed to join him in Afghanistan but his sons were taken to Moscow. One was sent to Siberia, one escaped, one joined the red army. Now the 450 descendants are scattered all over the world. The Emir had a zoo outside, and horse racing. Now the Building is rundown in places, but is being restored, after a fashion. It was used as a sanatorium in Soviet times, but inside the decor is over the top kitch.
Next we went to a mausoleum with amazing brick work, blipped
Then the bus dropped us and we continued on foot.for a walking touAmazing breakfast place . Huge Russian style room, alcoves for porcelain etc, wall paintings. Next to mausoleum with amazing brick work.
Then bus dropped us. Walking tour. Old pillars outside.
We had lunch opposite a madrasah. I'm really struggling with the food. I ordered chick pea soup but it was full of fatty meat, so I had chips instead.
We saw Lots more mosques, madrasahs and palaces. At one point there was a stall selling old Soviet memorabilia so I bought a couple of Lenin badges for the daughters - the guide said they were the ones for hard work.
All the mosques and mausoleums are really stunning but it is so hard to take it all in. Sunny but cold.
