A snap of the old southern carpark which provides access to the old Clubrooms which was built by the club in 1972.

Dropped by the Club this afternoon to check the start of the resurfacing of the track and the redevelopment of the grounds and facilities. The new lights are in, the old fence is gone and the old sheds and commentary box have gone. The grounds will be redesigned and landscaped with picnic areas and play grounds. A larger new carpark is planned for the northern end. There are also plans for a walking and running track to go round the boundary of entire complex. The old club rooms will remain for a few more years even though there will be new, larger rooms built.

Due for completion in April 2018. Can't wait. In the mean time I am working on establishing a Cycling Academy which we will launch at the sometime as the official opening of the 'new' track.
We have been engaged in a 12 year battle with the local council to get this redevelopment approved.

The original track was built in 1930 by a small group of cyclists. They made further refinements over the next year or so and in late 1932 they formed the Kilkenny Cycling Club.

I am sure this project will provide for some interesting blips over the next 6 months.
