Banwell Bone Caves

Today we were able to visit these caves at the end of the Mendip Ridge as part of the Rocktober Geology Festival.Banwell Bone Caves.
They are privately owned and have a fascinating history. One of the Bishop of Bath and Wells owned it and believed it proved evidence of the Flood.
They are full of prehistoric bones dating back to the last Ice Age with hyenas, a 12 foot bear of a type now extinct, arctic fox and so on.
There were also beautiful follies in the grounds looking out towards Weston- Super-Mare and Steepholm.
