Jarvisness

Klub Wydzial Remontowy, Gdansk

Proper Jarvis bars are often miles apart, even in an area with a high concentration of bars. Jarvises are often obliged to bypass dozens of watering holes, even if they have worked up a decent Damien Hirst, because the average such place is not fit to be seen in (even though many imbeciles think some of them are THE place to be seen). So it doesn't make that much difference if a bar is on the outskirts of a city with no other drinking establishments within walking distance, as is the case with Klub Wydzial Remontowy. It's a wonderful bar outside the Gdansk shipyard gates made famous by Lech Walesa and Solidarity. The building that houses the bar was a document control office in communist times, but now it serves cheap beer (even by Polish standards) and plays up to its working-class roots with hard-hat decor and great murals. Well worth jumping in a taxi for.
