Cattle Drive
Friends Nadja and Alois from our last village had invited us to take part in their annual cattle drive, not something you will see let alone have the opportunity to take part in, all that often in these parts. The pair do a lot of everything including some farming and that on an organic basis with this herd out on a field all summer and now being brought in before "going to market". They are both horse people too, Alois in particular, as though he was born on a horse's back, is a natural horseman. He gave us our horse Silvan in 1995 so that our same age foal Rosie didn't grow up alone. They are also in the process of building a real log house and in between get involved in much more.
I "passed" as a problem had arisen this morning: as Angie drove up to the house after the dog walk, I could hear an excruciating noise. I had not kept an eye on a slow puncture with the result that it had now "run flat" and was beyond rescue. It was anyway in the last few weeks of it's life. However the spare tyre which probably is as old as the car (16) is unused but has a "directional" tread which means it will only fit on one side of the car. Naturally it was the wrong side. Luckily however the other also very run down tyre was not directional, so was able to swap them over. Don't feel too happy with two wheels up in the air at the same time but all went well.
Angie didn't take a horse but just went to watch and take the opportunity to natter with old friends and enjoyed it too. The fields in the Blip are those where we used to keep our horses.
