Old fishermen never die ...
If I had the choice between smoked salmon and tinned salmon, I'd have it tinned. With vinegar.
Harold Wilson. Socialist, Statesman, Yorkshire-man (1916-1995).
Old Scottish gravestones bear a wonderful array of symbols; often of man's mortality and immortality, but also descriptive of the deceased's trade or profession and sometimes, as here, of their favourite pastime.
This gravestone stands in the graveyard at Peterculter. The river Dee, a renowned salmon river, runs alongside the graveyard. Clearly, the old angler who lies here had much enjoyed the sport to be had on the river.
