Where sheep may safely graze...
I drove Alex to Huntingdon this morning, as he had to take wellies and waterproofs, ready for a river survey that he was doing at college. After I dropped him off, the dogs and I went for a walk on Portholme Meadow, the largest hay-meadow in England, which is located next to the River Ouse between Godmanchester and Huntingdon.
We chatted with a very nice man who was fostering a young Staffie cross named Laura, who'd been found wandering the streets of London about a month ago, half-starving. She had clearly been well-looked after beforehand, as she had been spayed and was very friendly and well socialised. It's such a shame her owners hadn't got her microchipped...
It was surprisingly nippy at first and I wished I'd put on an extra layer - autumn is certainly here! In the autumn and winter the meadow is grazed by cattle and sheep, and I couldn't resist this peaceful pastoral scene, specially with the partial rainbow to add a little extra colour. It also gives me the excuse to link to a beautiful piece of music, one which has a particular resonance for me, as it was always played on the day that sixth-formers left our school. There was never a dry eye in the school hall...
