For the most part

it looked a piece of pink carpet you could quite easily walk on (extra1) but just near the edge in one section I could see it more clearly (main blip) It reminded me of what lichen looks like up close.  I spotted the bright pink last night (extra 2)  in an area I've never walked before and went back to have a closer look today.  I haven't seen anything like this before.  I can only think it is a type of algal bloom but I need to find out more.
