On the rails
There's mayhem in this mansion, since the cows were coming home
With delirium no sleep um, in a cloud of nylon foam
But release scours the outhouse and a hard rain sears the sky
But if you let the pigs decide it, they will put you in the sty
It's time to leave Plockton. We tidy up and head out for a coffee. In the end it is just one coffee, because the shop doesn't take plastic and I only have £3. Then it's back to the station and a relaxing lounge on the bench waiting for the train.
The ride to Inverness is gorgeous. There's no catering on board, so we go hungry. We only have 5 minutes to change onto the Perth train, so it's a relief when the catering trolley rolls up, even though the choice of sandwiches is dire.
We change at Perth for Edinburgh. Less crowded than the Inverness train, Claire and I get a table and try to sort out her computer filing and backup system. It's still a work in progress when we pull into Kirkcaldy and Claire hops off.
I continue to Edinburgh, grab the car, and return home. It's dark and very wet as I run around packing for London and retrieving Claire's phone. I grab some leftovers from the fridge to supplement lunchtime's Scotrail cheese sandwich. Then it's back to Edinburgh, where I meet Claire at Maybury and she rejoins the ranks of the teleconnected.
Finally, a bus journey back to Waverley for the delightful Caledonian Sleeper to Euston. Of course it's not quite ready for boarding, so I grab a half and half at the Guildford while I'm waiting. And then indulge in another one (and some cheese) in the catering car.
