Commando sunset

This is the Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge just as the sun goes down.

It is a Category A listed monument dedicated to all the Commandos who died in the second world war. It overlooks the training areas of the Commando Training Depot, established in 1942 at Achnacarry and it was unveiled in 1952 by the Queen Mother. Every year on Armistice Sunday a service is held here and the remaining Commandos attend. However there are very few of them left and they are less able to make the journey now.

It is a well known and well loved monument and even out of the tourist season is usually busy during the day with people taking pictures (it has a spectacular view of Ben Nevis and Aonach Mor) or simply paying their respects.

I thought it looked very striking in this light.
