A Find!
No dog.
No kids.
A day with no plans.
Coffee and scones for two this afternoon ...... £3. Not to be sniffed at.
When the lid I was turning for a small box exploded I started rummaging about for a small bit of burr.
I didn't find what I was looking for - but I did find this slab of burr elm tucked away behind some sheets of glass and plywood.
It must have been there for about 20 years - it is from some wood I cut from a fallen tree but didn't have a lathe capable of taking it...... or the courage to use it. It is 26" x 24" so it will still take a bit of nerve to hit the 'Start' button when I put it on the lathe.
The piece in the extras is nearly finished and is a bit smaller at 22" x 16". I am not entirely happy with it, but considering during drying it split right through and all the way t the centre it is a miracle it came out at all.
