Bananas on the Braai
We took a trip to the beach and had the most delicious braai (the South African word for barbeque). I introduced my Xhosa friends to the S'more and my Xhosa friends introduced me to what is now my favorite thing in the whole world: braaied bananas. Here's the recipe...
1. Slit an unpeeled banana lengthwise, leaving about two centimeters on each end of the banana. Be careful not to cut through the peel on the other side of the banana.
2. Slip squares of chocolate into the slit and then smoosh the banana around the chocolate, so it is as closed as it can be.
3. Be generous with the chocolate!
4. Put the chocolate-stuffed bananas on the grill, slit side up.
5. When the chocolate is melted and begins to ooze out of the bananas, remove them from the grill.
6. To eat, dig in with a spoon. Peel = Bowl
