Today's the day ......................... to wait for the bore

We had prior warning that today might be a good day to see the Arnside Bore.

The Bore is a tidal phenomenon which is caused when the leading edge of the incoming tide is forced through the narrowing Kent estuary at Arnside causing a wave against the direction of the bay’s current.  The size of the bore wave can be quite hard to predict, ranging from a few centimetres to almost a metre high but it's most likely to happen when the tidal range is around 10 metres.  Today was such a day - so we thought we would go and see.

Perhaps we just missed it by a few minutes - or perhaps it just didn't happen today - but I'm afraid we didn't see anything that could have been described as the Bore.  But it's always nice to be in Arnside looking at the bay and all that is going on there.

We'll be back again to give it another try ........................
