CRUISE (1): Venice
So here is a little back-blipping about the cruise in chronological order as it happened. I shall try and choose the most interesting elements.
- The main photo is a view of Venice when we finally left after a difficult start (see below)
- One of the canals
- A wonderfully colourful market
- a street dustbin decorated in classical Italian art. I love it!
We had a difficult start on departure. Our EasyJet flight from Geneva was two and a half hours late. The latest that flights can take off is 00:15. We weren't sure the plane would even get here on time. We just managed it! We got to our hotel in Venice at 3 am!
The next morning, we took a taxi to the port to board our cruise ship, BUT no boats could get in because of thick fog! They weren't even in the port! We spent the whole day in a huge hanger (several thousand people) with not enough seats and one tiny refreshment bar. We had to queue 2 whole hours to get a sandwich and a bottle of water. We finally boarded the ship early evening.
The cabins were very nice with private balcony. We fell into bed at 10 pm quite exhausted, but were woken up by sirens and loudspeaker messages blaring everywhere in six different languages! We were all told to go on deck for life-jacket drill! It was midnight and I refused to go! We got a message the next day telling us that it was obligatory, so we went at another calling at three in the afternoon !
Oh yes, we didn't leave Venice that first night because the fog hadn't lifted, so we left a day late...
Are you still with me?! Can you bear so many details?!
