"Slug-love"

I've often seen these dinky mushrooms in the grass. They look as though the caps are on upside-down as they are ridged in a similar fashion to the gills underneath. I picked the delicate little thing and found a darling tiny slug beneath. They're Japanese parasol mushrooms or pleated inky caps and soon melt away to nothing.

Today's poem is Prayer for Belfast by Carol Rumens. http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/09670889408455449?journalCode=cisr20  (Click to increase image size.)

This was written after the bombing of the Shankhill Road fish-shop on October 23 1995. It is a love poem to Belfast with a warning against possessiveness in love.
