Sharing Memories

Dear Diary,

Every trip down to see Karen is a trip down memory lane for me.  She brought out this oldie but goodie.  Taken in 1989, here we are sitting in her kitchen making origami cranes which we had just learned to make from her Japanese exchange student Kako.  Eighteen years later I would go to Japan myself and see the hall of cranes at the Nagasaki Memorial Museum.

Her daughter, Caitlin, is watching our attempts to fashion the little paper cranes with great interest.  She is married now with a sweet son Sam Henry and a step daughter.  She is a professor of sociology at Tufts University with a PhD.  That's a lot to accomplish in 28 years!

The movie, Victoria and Abdul, was wonderful.  I recommend it highly.  The little Loring Hall Theater in Hingham is one of those old fashioned town theaters which every town had in the 1950's but which few have retained.  It even has a balcony, which is unheard of now.  More memories of old movies we saw back in the day...ancient history it seemed.

Today, it is the long ride back to Maine.  This was a short visit but she is leaving for her hurricane battered St John on Nov. 1st so it was a last opportunity to get together.  I will miss her...
