An Ex-Life Boat
We spotted this "retired lifeboat" on a trading estate that we visited late this afternoon. Evidently its owner plans to restore it and turn it a quirky b&b accommodation (not where it is currently located though). This would at one time have been one of the on-board lifeboats for the Gryphon A.
A quick Google search on "Gryphon A" reveals that it is classed as "floating storage/production", weighs 66,830 tons. was built in 1993, and is currently almost due east of Fair Isle, on a course of 210 degrees, at a speed of 0.6 knots (no water-skiing behind it then). It is owned by Maersk Oil North Sea UK and its home port is Douglas, Isle of Man.
Fascinating what we can find out at the click of a mouse.
As suggested by ThingsBeautiful, I have now tagged this for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. If you click on this link, and then the pink bar, it will help towards sponsorship of mammograms.
