Flora in the Wood
The location and stories of this statue recently came to my attention. It has mixed histories depending upon who you believe.
It resides towards the top of a little wooded area amongst a patch of rhododendrons, occupying a very small clearing. The statue original belonged to Chatsworth House and was based upon Flora the Goddess of Flowers. It was gifted by the then Duke of Devonshire to Stoke Hall. I gather from the variety of stories that it has never had a happy life.
Intriguingly some one has left some flowers, now wilting, upon it.
back blip for yesterday.
