Line To Nowhere

Former siding that came off the East Coast mainline (which can just be seen on the left) to serve Blindwells opencast coalmine in East Lothian. The mine closed in 2000, the siding disconnected and mostly lifted. A short length of rail was left and got increasingly overgrown. However, it was recently cleared. Permission has been granted for a major settlement to be constructed on the site of the mine and part of that scheme envisions a possible station or halt. Even if this doesn't happen during initial phases, provision has to be made for it to be possible in the future. Click here to see the siding and mine back in 1991.
