Squanto, Friend of the Pilgrims

We have been learning about the Pilgrims and about Squanto who taught them how to plant corn and beans, amongst other things.
Today the kids we supposed to build Pilgrim settlements in the garden using mud, sticks, etc Lot's of muddy fun was had as they made rivers and lakes (with the water-hose) by which to establish their settlements. I had lots of cute pictures of wooden twig walls and even the cows and pigs that came to New Amsterdam (New York) on Dutch ships, but my favourite was the little wigwam that Squanto had specially made so he would feel more 'at home' amongst the Pilgrims :0) he has red face paint because the first group that came to visit the settlement in our story "had painted their faces red and yellow so they would look their best." Interesting to see what parts of the story the kids remember

Tomorrow we will be planting corn the way Squanto instructed by putting a fish in the hole....we'll see what kind of Pilgrims we'd have made when it grows or doesn't grow I guess :0)

I almost got a good scorpion blip tonight. Heard one of the kids yell "scorpion" from the living room, reached for the camera, and just as I almost got my hands on it I heard the first whack of a flip-flop ... didn't think you'd want to see a squished scorpion really so maybe next time....there will be a next time I guarantee it - unfortunately :0/
