Swan Ringing

Generations of swans who live in the Bishop's Palace Moat have been trained to ring this bell below the window in the gatehouse in order to be fed. We've visited the moat regularly in the 38 years we've lived in Somerset but this is the first time I've actually witnessed them doing it.

The tradition started in the 1870s apparently and has been continued ever since.

We had fun with Sophie in the park, fed the ducks then had a coffee in the Palace cafe.

This afternoon Sophie helped us rake up leaves in the garden and wash the car, prior to going away to Devon for a few days tomorrow. Not sure if I'll have Internet access, so may be out of touch for a while.
