All Hallows' Eve

Apparently, carving Jack-o-Lanterns out of vegetables (usually turnips or potatoes) originated in Ireland centuries ago, Irish emigrants taking the tradition with them to America, where pumpkins became the veg of choice to carve.

There were plenty on sale at Northampton Market today, with these giants looking impressive in size and value.
