Fishing girls

I have probably blipped this statue before (a long long time ago) but I make no apologies for shooting it again. The statue commemorates the history of the herring fishing, when hundreds of young women toured the coast of the UK following the fisheries. My wife’s grandmother did that at one stage. I think it must have been an incredibly liberating experience. So good to have statues celebrating ‘ordinary ‘ people and not just ancient generals and politicians.
