Mica Preschool

This is a city preschool started and run by two of our people Miriam and Casca hence the name.
I had to drop Mary off early morning and when we arrived everything was in full swing.
I'm glad I saw it, it made my day, it is such an amazing place, I wish our grandchildren could go there. Learning to count was so much fun, but a serious business for the kids who are now speaking English as well.
In Malawi everywhere, when white people arrive the kids all run to them. So engrossed were they in their lesson that even the camera flash went totally un- noticed.
This was one of these moments you hoped would happen; A preschool as an oasis in the middle of poverty and multitudinous challenges and you say Wow Yippee this is what Malawians can achieve with a little training and a tonne of inspiration. Did I mention money? NO, because Malawi is not about money and dumping millions here has achieved nothing in the past 40 years.
Some of the well connected have certainly got richer, but the poor are certainly poorer.

Casca, Jen, Grace and Margaret were captivating and I stayed much longer than I had planned

I saw Julie Thornhill's fingerprints all over the place. Thanks for putting so much into it.
A little note: This buildings hosts adult an education course in the evenings. It is open free to all, but the classes are all women and caters for those who have never been to school to those who want to sit Primary school examinations.
Grace is now a big part of the courses with Miriam of course.
Getting a second chance in education is a most wonderful sight. Seeing a young woman reading her first simple book and the sheer joy in her face is a magical moment.

This is the plan for all our 19 preschools. Of course it won't happen immediately, but it will happen, driven by powerful women, just now grabbing a voice. With us every single person matters, we don't have to do millions
