BIRD'S EYE MAPLE

Another beautiful wood which is difficult to work - it's liable to shrink & twist in unexpected ways. The longer it rests, dries & matures, the more compliant it becomes.

This is the bowl of a six-string "lute guitar" - an unfortunate German invention which flowered between the late 19th century & the early 20th.

A collector's item with precious little musical merit & a bitch to repair!
