Ramblings from Zambia....

Decided to pop out to the elephant orphanage today - its always so lovely to see these little elephants being well cared for before their rehabilitation into the wild.  There are 5 elephants at present, one is in intensive care as it was rescued about 2 weeks ago.  The one in the extra picture has been in the facility about 2 months and is still really thin and weak.  These elephants are the result of poaching here in Zambia and I am thankful that this place exists to protect these young ones.  In Kafue national park where the rehabilitation centre is, there are 15 other elephants - they are not normally rehabilitated until they are around 15 years old as it takes this length of time for them to be able to cope in the wild and hopefully find a herd to join.  Its an amazing job that the elephant handlers do at the centre!

Looking forward to a friend coming for dinner this evening!
