Cairns, Australia
Cairns is in the very North of Australia and where the Great Barrier reef meets the rainforest. The city is a really interesting one with lots of history and aboriginal designs everywhere you look. We decided to book some tours over the next couple of days visiting the rainforest and waterfalls. Today was the Uncle Brians tour where " Lozza" our driver took us up to Cape Tribulation (few hours north of Cairns and into the Daintree rainforest. First we took a boat ride along the Daintree river in search of crocodiles. Unfortunately we only saw 2 - a young crocodile and a fully grown but it was interesting to see them in their natural habitat (just all kept our arms and legs in the water!) We drove through the rainforest and had a fish and chip lunch at a pub. Lozza asked if we liked spiders and saw a huuuuge black spider the size of a dinner plate, he informed us it would keep us company for lunch!! We had a look at Cape tribulation beach and then headed to Masons creek. The water was so clear and full of fish, it was beautiful to swim in. Amazing swimming in the rainforest! We visited another beach, Thornton beach, which was another gorgeous tropical beach (also have to beware of crocodiles though!) As we were very high up Lozza took us to a brilliant lookout point , where you could see different islands such as Snapper island and also Port Douglas. One of the other tourists had pointed out there was a snake in the grass down the hill of the lookout and we all had a look. As they said you could see a small section of the Python in the grass. The third snake we'd seen in a week!! To end the day we drove to Port Douglas which was my favourite beach. Me and some of the others on the tour had a swim in the very warm sea which was a nice change! Great day
