Thistle Down

By Ethel

A Leaf Fell

A leaf fell down,
I saw it drifting to the ground.
From off the tree,
It gently wafted without sound.

And as it lay,
The wind took hold.
And bore it to the skies,
Where space and air was cold.

I looked long and sighed,
And wondered where it went.
Why it so quickly went away,
And what its life had meant.

Moments there...I sat and thought,
How lives and leaves go on.
And when you least expect it,
They sail off and are gone.

To that place somewhere,
Where God collects his own.
The leaf upon the tallest tree,
And men around his throne.
