Plumbers, dogs, frogs and weddings ...
What started off as a quiet Sunday .. did not prove to be so.
Johann and Ivor did not go on their usual Sunday morning outing with the bikes, which was good.
Later on, with the dogs due to visit the vet during next week, I suggested that we bath the four of them. While filling every possible container with luke warm water for the rinse, I heard a frantic call from my mom inside of the house.
It seemed that her bathroom floor was deluged by water ... Johann quickly went outside to turn off the water supply, and back inside to turn off any taps that supplied water to her bathroom.
By this time, (just a few minutes) the water had covered most of the tile floors and had already reached the bedrooms with carpets ....
With two sponge mops, we started mopping ....
The tiles are extremely slippery when wet. We do not need orthopedic assistance as well!!
After most of the water had been mopped up, we could evaluate the problem.
It then proved that the hot water pipe, underneath the hand basin had come loose from its fittings, and within seconds had squirted enough hot water to cause a real big problem.
Over the festive season I noticed that the water force from hot water tap was not very strong - but other matters filled my mind, then.
In fact, it was busy clogging up due to calcification ...
Fortunately we have emergency plumbers over weekends, who, at no small cost, will attend to these 'little' matters.
A friendly bloke of long standing aquaintance (I think by all the Rands we have paid over the years, we own a small part of this plumbing business!) was attending before long, and within minutes, had the problem fixed.
Johann never seem to have the right tools - we can cut down trees, fix bikes, but plumbing - no way.
So, when all was said and done, the containers with luke warm water for the dogs' bath were still waiting outside ..... but by that time, my inspiration had left, and besides, I had to start thinking of Sunday lunch.
Then, Cecile called.
She had been fortunate to attend a wedding the previous afternoon as photographer's assistant.
Her own photographic skills and abilities are by no means something to sneer at, but this was a opportunity of a lifetime to see and to observe.
The photographer, who became part of our family by marrying and in-law (complicated), does far more than just snapping away.
She does the bride's hair, the make-up, the actual photo taking of the day, also at the ceremony and then stays on till well into the night at the reception ..... and for this she asks a pretty penny ..... and gets paid with a smile!
While talking and listening to Cecile's experience, I noticed a frog clinging for dear life onto the pillar that supports the indoor fountain and frog pool.
He was by no means small, but could not get himself out of the pool.
So we stacked some stones on the inside of the pool for easy access and exit - in the hope that this will aid this communities' comings and goings!
They are very busy at night - but we love them and it is music to our ears!
And then there was Deedle, the Dane, all 67kg's of him, who fitted himself into this cramped space which he had come to like the past few weeks.
This dog bed is intended for the Grey hounds, but more often than not, Deedle seems to put himself down over there, and love every bit of it.
Now that everybody has received nourishment, peaches, ice cream and all, it is time to rest.
And to blip, before anything else happens ....
