On borrowed time...
Not quite a frost this morning, but a bright and chilly start to the day. The autumn colour in Stonepit Close and Old Sulehay Forest looked dazzling against the clear blue sky - no fungi to speak of though.
It was cold in the wind, but felt quite warm in the more sheltered corners. A Red Admiral was still on the wing, and I was rather surprised when this Common Darter settled on the top of a fence just in front of me. The butterfly will hibernate, but this dragonfly now has a limited life expectancy and will die once we have a hard frost. Mind you the latest I've ever photographed one is 22nd November so it may have a couple of weeks of grace yet.
