Birding days

Having hasd to go to Lochmaddy to pick up a parcel we missed yersterday, I went on up north, picking up the American Wigeon there en route. The Crane and Snow Goose seemed to have gone walkabout and I was just heading back to the car when I got a phone call about an odd flycatcher not too far away.
Off I went and caught up with the finder and we spent an hour looking at it and discussing it. Esoteric flycatcher species were mentioned - some new to me - but we ended up with the theory it was a Brown Flycatcher - v. rare - and not the more commonplace Spotted Flycatcher. A good example of my maxim of the 29th October - if you see one you'll know it.
All our trying to make it a Brown Flycatcher and expert opinion via the web is that it is "just" a Spotted Flycatcher, albeit one that possibly comes from the eastern edge that species range - Siberia.
A good lesson and still an interesting bird.
