Lost David Austin rose
This rose was planted by us on 20th May 1997 – just on 20 years ago, and is still going strong despite our amateurish attempts at pruning each year. To be honest, it grows as large as a small tree and has to be cut back hard. After the last hard pruning right down to the ground, we expected this was the end of it.
It is by our back fence, and today Paladian happened to note some flowers rising from the very small bush. So I set up a nice plain background, got out the tripod, and here is the result.
After a great deal of research and delving into the back of filing cabinets we have decided that this is “Jayne Austin”, which according to the David Austin website consists of delicately refined rosettes with a lovely tea rose fragrance. We are so pleased that is survived.
