Promoted for the Day

This is the day when I carve another notch on my tree of life, a tree that is now so tall and the notches so high up, I fear that at any moment my foot will slip or a gust of wind blow me off.

It is a day when I become somewhat maudlin and reflective as I ponder on the luck I have had with my genes. My parents would have been chuffed to think that their first born ( and her brother)have made it this far, while they fell by the wayside too early.

I know it’s going to be a good day. His Lordship and I are lunching out and David and Luca are bring cake round after tea. I have been sent amongst other things, flowers, an inflatable crown, chocolate in the disguise of a Viking Whale Bone plaque, much too lovely to eat and lots of good wishes from friends real and virtual.

As I write this sitting in the sun, I have just returned from a flight into town in my new Fly boots to buy ingredients for tomorrow’s lunch when son#1 and his family from Elgin are due to arrive. The butternut squash soup is already bubbling on the stove........but tomorrow is another day, I have to enjoy this one first.
