Between fen and mountains

Withering on the vine

I did not expect to find any grapes left on my neighbour's vine which I have permission to harvest.  There were plenty on the floor and some shrivelled on the vine but those left that alright are beautifully sweet and perfumed.  It is an unusual Italian grape variety apparently, with a very distinctive taste.
I spent more time in the garden doing hard labour trying to clear the courtyard of the carpet of matted weeds but stopped to have lunch with a friend who came to visit. I put some weedkiller down but, as Dave says,  I should not be too hopeful of results as the growing season is virtually over.
