Greyfriars, Gloucester
When I was younger and worked in Bauermeister Booksellers on Edinburgh's George IV bridge, American tourists would come into the shop and ask, "where's the statue of that little dog that followed his master into battle?" They meant, of course, Greyfriars Bobby.
Years later, I worked in a bookshop in Stroud. As there is no famous dog statue to enquire after, the questions and demands were that much dafter, as I recalled when chatting to Cailleach on blip last night.
"Do you sell council bin bags?"
"My name is Roast Chicken"
"I MUST have a copy of the Kama Sutra by 3 pm today!" (today being Christmas Eve)
This, however, is Greyfriars church on Via Sacra in Gloucester, of which I know little at present. I just rather fancied blipping the door, but the name Via Sacra suggests that the Church or priory was on the pilgrim's route to Gloucester Cathedral, about 1 km away.
The biggest pilgrimage today in Gloucester was to Kingsholm, the rugby stadium. Fans in Gloucester RFC shirts were singing in the streets today, so I that suggests a good result. SOME Women of a certain age also flocked to Kingsholm back in June to throw their knickers at the Welsh singer Tom Jones. I'm far too sensible to do that: might catch a chill!
