The property was built in the 1870's, but since I have spent the morning scraping the varnished wallpaper off this plaster I suspect that this is the first time this handwritten notice opposite the front door has been seen since then. Presumably to tell prospective tenants that this property had been claimed.
I read a news article that said our educators are considering withdrawing cursive handwriting from the curriculum because we don't need or use it any more and a simple print writing style is all children need.
I think that is a shame because it means in future there is no possibility of uncovering this kind of architectural archaeology.
