Remembrance
Mya was given the honour of being an escort for one of the veterans and part of the colour party for her scout troupe today. I was the designated driver so watched the parade and watched the proceedings in the church yard and the church.
During the service I got to thinking about all those who had given their lives in conflicts around the world. But was particularly thoughtful around the second world war. I wondered if the little church we were all in had been the main place of worship for the airmen based at RAF Manby during that time. There is a plaque that mentions the trainee airmen but no real mention of any of the squadrons that may have been based there. I fully intend to do more research to find out more. I was also really surprised at how many war graves there were in the little cemetery.
But back to Mya and her special duties. The very kindly gentlemen in the photograph (unfortunately I don't know his name), gave her a little enamel poppy pin that I hope she will treasure.
