Love wins
We got up at 5:30 and headed down to join the crowd of people waiting to hear the results of the marriage equality poll, the atmosphere was optimistic but also tense, when the announcement was made that over 60% of the voters had voted yes to marriage equality The crowd erupted into cheers and tears of joy and relief.
Rachael’s daughter Lauryn, girlfriend Liz and her Mum Kate were interviewed on breakfast news and later interviewed for CBS knees as well.
It was incredibly emotional to witness this historic moment.
We went to Hairboss Salon owned by our friends Ron and Michael who are 60 next year, they did an interview for CBS News while we were there, the interviewer wanted to know what it had been like living as gay men during this time of not being accepted and how it felt now that the public had voted yes, It was very moving listening to their stories and their feelings and joyous to think of this now after all this time at being together they can get married if they want to.
We had a glass of champagne to celebrate.
Rachael and I had a lazy day watching TV and napping, We ordered a Chinese for lunch and went out for a lovely walk along the Swan River, we saw a cormorant, some fishermen, a family of black swans and all the birds, the sunset was beautiful.
We went for dinner at a local pub restaurant called the Windsor which is where Rachael and Kevin actually met.
Auntie Tracey popped over.
Tomorrow we go down south.
Last night just as I was about to go to sleep I’ve got a phone call from the Brain Bank, I donated my mothers brain, spinal-cord and Pituitary gland to them in accordance with her wishes after her death, they called to tell me her official diagnosis, we were always told that she had a condition called multiple systems atrophy but it turns out that this was incorrect and that in fact she was suffering from PSP - Progressive supra nuclear palsy, they are both parkinsonian disorders, they reassured me that Mum would not have missed out on any treatment as there is no cure for either disorder, they are very similar conditions. It is good to know the facts even if it makes no difference, however it may make a difference to other people in the future having the opportunity to do research on her tissue.
