Life through the lens...

Rievaulx Abbey

Not sure why but I am having problems with Blip tonight.
Have written loads, and lost it all.
So this will be a shortened version!

A fabulous day. Glorious sunshine, although it was raining when we left home.
A walk from Helmsley to Rievaulx Abbey. One of our favourite.
Picked up a huge beef sandwich from Hunters in Helmsley before we set off. ( see extra)

This is the earliest Cistercian monastery in the country. Founded in 1131, but later seized by Henry VIII of England in 1538.
Now owned by English Hertiage.
It is only open at weekends in Winter.
We were very grateful to the Women's Institute for providing the bench, where we sat and had lunch.
The plaque said it was in memory of Lady Marjorie Beckett. 1966.

The sun was just going down as we arrived back in Helmsley.
A wonderful 6 mile walk.
Just such a joy. Makes you glad to be alive!

I will tag this for the new Blip challenge. Local Architecture, even if it is a ruin.

I have put a few extra photos.
