Day 321/17. Soon be time to hibernate.....

The November sun brought me outside with my macro lens. And it also brought out this Hawthorn Shield Bug.
These always remind me of the movie Starship Troopers.....
Very common in the Southern UK, but rarely in Scotland to the north, this large bug (this one was around 15mm) is completely harmless despite its fearsome looks. Despite its name it feeds off various tree and shrub leaves.
It is not a fly or a beetle, but is its own species. Soon it will hibernate for the winter in a crevice somewhere....before emerging in the spring to continue eating our Oak Trees.....but we have big Oak trees and plenty of leaves....
