Abbotsbury Swannery

Our son Tom and his girlfriend have come down from London to see us this weekend, here we are at the Swannery which is along the Chesil Beach.

I loved the cloud formation so included it in this image. Most of the swans were gathering for the daily feed time which was happening behind us.
Swans pair for life here are three pairs (swanning around!!!)

The Swannery was established by Benedictine Monks during the 1040s when the monastery was built and believe it or not they were farmed for food for their banquets.

Now, since 1540s it has been a Sanctuary for Swans and other wildlife. They feed over 600 swans a day, in May and June hundreds of cygnets are hatched.

What amused me was the cygnets now full swan size but with grey feathers still, chirped like little chicks ( if you had your eyes shut, you would think they were tiny!)

Lovely Day, with my boy!
