Why we love rainbows
We all love rainbows and I saw this one on the way to Sheriffmuir this morning.
Part of the reason they fascinate us, according to psychologists, is that they are a metaphor for hope and belief.
Certainly they are a favourite component of mythology throughout history-
from a burning bridge linking the earth with the gods (Norse religion) to God’s promise to Noah that he would never send another Great Flood (Christianity).
Today we know the cause of rainbows is much more prosaic- it’s the sun shining through water droplets.
Check out this video, which became an Internet sensation.
