Breaking Bad

A little kitchen chemistry was required tonight after I left a pot on the gas while I was Skyping my son. The poor pot was left in a bad way and normal soaking and scouring was totally ineffective. Mr Google came to the rescue telling me to boil up water and vinegar, then add bicarbonate of soda. What Mr Google failed to mention was that it would then erupt. This was the eruption deflating, as I rushed off to get my phone.
My family chemist tells me that in chemistry terms that is "wash it with hot acid then quench with base". All I can say is that ‘cooking’ did its job!
