Hen of the woods

While walking in the woods this morning I came upon this cluster of Hen of the woods. After cutting it from the ground I smelled it expecting that real earthy scent instead it had a spruce aroma. It sells for around 30$ a pound retail.
I had it as a side dish but it could have been the main.
